Credentials: Association of Breastfeeding Mothers Peer Supporter, Mindful Breastfeeding Practitioner, MHFA England Mental Health First Aider
Bio: Emily is a TMBFS certified Mindful Breastfeeding Practitioner, Association of Breastfeeding Mothers Peer Supporter, and Founder of the mum and baby community It Takes A Village, Crystal Palace. She is also a MHFA England Mental Health First Aider.
As a struggling new mum raising a baby in isolation during the pandemic, Emily began It Takes a Village, Crystal Palace in response to the lack of face to face breastfeeding and peer support available in her area. She launched the first group meeting, along with Breastfeeding Counsellor and IBCLC Eleanor Campbell during Maternal Mental Health Week in May 2021. Not really knowing who or what to expect, Emily advertised for new mums and their babies to join her, socially distanced on picnic rugs in Crystal Palace Park. She was so moved to discover mums with babies, some as young as 2 weeks old emerging from their homes, desperately seeking support and looking to find their village. The group has gone on to meet every week since, (housed inside a local community centre in the Winter months) where new or not so new mums can access breast/chest and bottle feeding support, practice Mindfulness and relaxation, check in on each other’s emotional and physical health, and build their confidence feeding amongst their peers. Within just a matter of months the group has grown exponentially, with meetings packed to the rafters and a long waiting list every week, a WhatsApp community of over 90 mums giving each around the clock mutual support, plus commendation prize at the 2021 MIND/Marsh Awards for Peer Support Group of the year.
Emily now offers a 1-2-1 Mindful Breastfeeding consultancy to both antenatal and postnatal parents working with clients at their homes (within South East London) or via Zoom. In this tailored package of support, Emily will work with you using personalised mindfulness exercises, affirmations and journaling to support you on both the physiological and emotional sides of your breastfeeding journey, as well as taking you through an extended guided relaxation in your own home.
